the horns of life [May. 9th, 2006|11:53 pm]
is this the place to come to vomit emotionally? i guess its a poigniant time in my life because i'm transitioning. always fun. this round involves a lot of planning, accompanied by reminding of priorities, etc. bottom line, i love my friends and my career is salvageable. because i am capable. and i have a plan. and the people who get what they want are the ones who know what they want. its going to be a good summer...

(no subject) [Jul. 6th, 2005|04:01 pm]
[Current Mood | recumbent]

We found a place! In Wicker Park. I'm convinced the commute won't be terrible (back to the HP), and I'm really looking forward to a change in scenery. The apartment is very reasonable for the area, and well within our budget, and it comes with every single thing we wanted (except laundry in-unit, which was a stretch, anyway) plus a few extras. The walls are NOT white! The hardwood floors are BRAND NEW and cherry! There is a large sunny back deck, and the entire back wall of the building is painted with clouds. We think its whimsical. I'd really like my roommate to see the place, but she has been away on a business trip since Friday night when I fist found it. I've sent her pictures and she likes what she sees, but I don't think I'll rest easy until she actually lays eyes on the place and exclaims, "oh it's BEAUTIFUL!" or whatever her equivalent is. I am going tonight to lay down the security deposit and perhaps sign the lease. Very exciting, but it feels so FINAL. But then I think, if you never finalize the search process, you'll never have anywhere to live. So I guess it's a good thing. When we're all moved in (ie August 1st or 8th) we'll have a gathering and EVRYONE will be coming by. Right? Right?

Summer in the HP has been a bit of a ride. It seems like every week has been something different. Barbeques, birthdays, the wedding, people leaving, apartment hunting, schoolwork, and I'm waay behind on my job. But it feels like one by one, items are being checked off my list, and life is getting simple again. And it feels good. I s'pose I should be doing what I can to make the most of my last month as a hyde park resident, but I'm really enjoying having my evenings to myself to take care of... whatever, whatever I want. So there. And everyone else who's here is busy too. So I think weekends. Maybe I'll try to organize a get together of some sort, or a field trip to jimmy's or something. We'll see.

OK. Back to getting something done. In a minute.

let me do you... [Jun. 21st, 2005|05:31 pm]
1. Reply with your name and I will write something I like about you.
2. I will then tell what song reminds me of you.
3. If I were to apply an o'clock to you, I'll tell you what it would be.
4. I will try to name a single word that best describes you.
5. I'll tell you the most memorable moment I've had with you.
6. I will tell you what color you remind me of.
7. I'll then tell you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. Put this in your journal.

life is... [Jun. 2nd, 2005|11:42 am]
[Current Mood | distressed]
[Current Music |maclab printer]

life is good: i'm so close i can taste it. all i have left is to pass the french oral (oooh la la).

life is bad: all i have left is to PASS the french oral. and the woman is less than thrilled with me. yesterday i mistakenly took a nap and was so sleep deprived i missed my appointment. mind you, she squeezed me into that appointment against her will in the first place. so now i have to bed and cry and plead and and and ope she'll let me take it today. oh god, what if she doesnt? she has to right? and besides, it's only ten minutes. but i know she'll grade me harshly, seeing as how i suck so badly at life. and hence my worries about passing.

life is good: i'm going home this weekend for the bachelorette party. it's gonna be fun. and if nothing else, a highly relaxing weekend. and jonny's gonna drive me, which is AWESOME for many reasons, but mostly because...

life is bad: i have NO money, not even enough to buy a train ticket. which also means not enough to pay my astronomical phone bill, so i am incommunicado until my parents dig me out. i HATE that shit! never again!

life is good: alan's bday is today, and i miss he and julia a lot. it'll be good to see them at dinner tonight.

life is bad: there are ten million other people i haven't seen in what feels like a year, who are leaving for ever in a week or two. where did the days go??

i'm sure there are other reasons, but these are currently the most pressing. hope you and yours are better than me and mine, or at least holdin' strong.

My Turn! [May. 31st, 2005|02:17 pm]
[Current Mood | anxious]

Let the first post be SPAM!

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

"Regardless of pitch, the angle between successive leaf primordia-- the divergence angle-- is 137 degrees."
